Piiata Lights

The first design collaboration between Napier couple Nga Waiata and Peter Baker. Both are contemporary artists. Nga Waiata paints and designs jewellery. Peter is a sculptor who also teaches current studio practices and lectures on art history and design. The focus of the essentially handmade lightboxes is the inclusion of te reo script which is meticulously handcut from translucent vinyl. Piiata means/translates to brightness and illumination which is also by chance a mix of their names.
